& Finch is me, Rob, plus a small group of filmmakers who keep choosing to work together.

I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning visual journalist and three-time Daytime Emmy-nominated filmmaker. My greatest strength is building teams. I lead the company as director, producer and editor. I work on and stand behind everything & Finch makes. I also handle all the communication and collaboration with clients directly.

The rest of the folks on this page are my go-to team who I trust with the story, not just the task. They are some of the best human beings I have ever met. Talented. Joyful. Kind.

They are the people I would want to tell my own story.

Sarah Bourscheid

Editor

Sarah Bourscheid is an award-winning documentary video editor with a passion for socially responsible, character-driven stories. While her clients range from Nike to nonprofits, her favorite projects revere resilience and hold space for all the splendid contradictions of humanity. She loves to deep dive into a story and credits her editing chops to a healthy dose of hyper-fixation, pattern recognition, and a heart on her sleeve. When she’s not editing, you can find her biking to the river, eeking at the sight of a ferris wheel, or giving high fives to strangers.

Sarah is one of the most creative people I know. I worked with her at Blue Chalk and at Floret, and her huge heart comes right through in the edit. You can feel how much she cares about the people on screen, the people making it and the client. She makes disparate shots add up to a feeling through a next level understanding of music and sound, and she brings solutions to problems that seem unsolvable.

Jesse Crowell

Director and Editor

Jesse is a Portland, Oregon–based director and editor inspired by honest, curious, uncommon stories about people.
His expertise spans hands-on storytelling, creative direction, team leadership, and client partnership, all grounded in his roots as an editor.

He is the co-editor of Firebreak, a feature-length documentary about formerly incarcerated wildland firefighters, and has helped bring stories to life for brands including Nike, Airbnb, and The Washington Post.

I met Jesse the same week I met Julianne, when he started as an intern at Blue Chalk, and over the ten years since he has grown in every part of the craft. He is calm and easygoing and also one of the hardest workers I know, with a mind that never stops generating ideas and a real eye for design. He is a gifted editor and director, and adored by everyone who works with him.

Eric Maierson.jpeg

Eric Maierson

Editor + Writer

Eric Maierson is a writer and two-time Emmy-winning video editor and producer. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, ProPublica, The Washington Post and Time. Recently, he co-wrote and edited the 5-episode Webby-honoree podcast “Covering Their Tracks” for Tablet.

Previously, he was a senior editor at Blue Chalk Media. He also served as senior producer at MediaStorm, a documentary production company in Brooklyn, New York. There, he edited close to 100 films, including the feature The Distance Between Us.

Originally from Houston, Eric earned his master of fine arts in creative writing from Emerson College, as well as a bachelor of science in communications from Ithaca College.  He is currently studying Holocaust and Genocide Education at Rowan University. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Ellen, and their dogs.

I knew of Eric before I ever met him…he's a legend in editing circles, and I am lucky to say I have known him now for 20 years. He's kinda like an anthropologist of the human condition, driven by putting work into the world that really matters. He, along with Tim, taught me how to edit, and he's been a mentor to me and truly hundreds of people making careers in this field. He's kind, witty, a little tortured, and full of perspective and wisdom. Finally, Eric is a great writer but honestly the worst speller I know. But, it’s OK : )

Tim

Tim McLaughlin

Editor

Tim’s expertise as an editor has earned him recognition from various organizations, including two Emmy nominations, Vimeo’s Staff Picks, the World Press Awards, the NAACP Image Awards, and the Webby Awards. Tim previously served as Senior Editor at Blue Chalk, Lead Editor at GoodFight Media, and Producer/Editor at MediaStorm. His editing work includes films and TV for clients like National Geographic Channel, PBS, Magnolia Network, USA Today, WSJ Magazine, and CNN, with projects streaming on HBO Max, Amazon Prime, the Roku Channel, and Waterbear.

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Tim earned his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Florida’s School of Art and Art History and a Bachelor’s in History from Centre College. He now lives in southern Maine with his wife Britt, daughter Matilda, and son Fox.

I met Tim at MediaStorm in New York what feels like a lifetime ago, and he has been a mentor to me and a collaborator ever since. He is a gifted storyteller and a technical force, always pushing what is possible in the edit. He cares deeply about the work and about leaving the world better for his amazing children. He is in the other Portland, across the country, and my only complaint is that I do not get to work next to him in person nearly enough.

MiroMerrill_2024.jpg

Miró Merrill

Illustrator + Graphic Designer

Miró Merrill is a graphic designer, illustrator, and painter. She uses color, texture, and type to distill a human story into a visual language. Much of her work is focused on crafting visual identities for video projects. These identities act as style guides and include title designs, color palettes, fonts for text-on-screen, illustration styles, character illustrations, maps, textures, handwritten type, archival treatments, and thumbnail designs. Her work covers a wide range of video genres, including educational explainer videos, branded content, fully animated pharmaceutical content, and documentary series found on HBO Max, Magnolia Network, Food Network, and USA Today.

I worked with Miró for years at Blue Chalk. She is an exquisite artist. Her work spans fun and frivolous to meditative and refined, and it's always just plain great. She's fast, easy to work with, and can change styles mid brushstroke. While all that is great, what I value most is that Miró brings such a strong understanding of how design helps to communicate with an audience, how it makes people feel or moves them to action. Most importantly, she's always there to smile, laugh and make people around her happy. If I try to come up with a word that sums up Miró and her work, it’s joy.

Julianne.jpg

Julianne Sato-Parker

Producer and Director

Julianne Sato-Parker is a documentary director and producer whose work spans features, series, and short-form storytelling. Her feature credits include Solving for Zero (co-director with Rob and producer), an adaptation of Bill Gates' bestseller How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, and Big Dreams in Umatilla (producer), which aired on OPB. She directed and produced episodes of the HBO Max docuseries Storefront Stories and Diary of an Old Home, and her shorter work has appeared under the banners of TIME Magazine, NBC, and TED, as well as in branded films for Microsoft, Google, Nike, Autodesk, and Lowe's.

She is currently in production on two feature documentaries: Symphony of Silence, (director/producer), explores the fight to protect the last naturally quiet places on earth, with support from The North Face, Sony Music, and the Redford Center; and Strato (producer), which follows stories from the front lines of the global climate crisis.

Julianne started as one of the first interns I hired at Blue Chalk, and grew almost overnight into a producer and director. We have made documentaries together, long and short, in every configuration since. She is a sharp writer and a fearless thinker, but what I trust most is her heart. She cares about people and about the world, and it shows up in everything she makes.

Matt Slutsky.jpeg

Matt Slutsky

Strategy + Partnerships

Matthew Slutsky has spent more than 20 years at the intersection of politics, advocacy, and storytelling, building the relationships and campaigns that turn complex ideas into public momentum. He began his career in political campaigns and issue advocacy, including work connected to the presidential campaigns of John Kerry and Barack Obama, before becoming a founding team member at Change.org during the organization's early growth.

Since then, Matthew has helped campaigns, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations figure out what they need to say and how to say it, then assembled the teams and media to deliver it. That work spans documentary, television, branded content, and advocacy, including the USA Today series Sister Cities, the Super Bowl ad The Time Is Now for Acreage Holdings, the documentary High Stakes: America's Journey to the Affordable Care Act for the Commonwealth Fund, and national campaigns on healthcare access, home healthcare workers, and clean energy.

Matthew lives in Philadelphia with his lovely wife and smart kids, Henry and Louisa.

Matt is so good at listening. He asks clients thoughtful questions about what they're trying to achieve, and makes people feel heard…because he actually hears them. He's tuned in to what's happening in the world and the industry, and he's always up for a long call to brainstorm wild ideas and get into the weeds on what it would take to pull them off. He handles stressful moments with good nature and practical nuts and bolts thinking. He's also just really hilarious. Clients feel like Matt is on their team. That's because he is.

Sebastian Weinberg.jpg

Sebastián Weinberg

Head of Production

Sebastián Weinberg is an Emmy-nominated producer who has managed and produced multiple award-winning film, TV, commercial, and digital projects for clients such as Magnolia, Showtime, History, CNN, ESPN, Hulu, Food Network, Nike, PBS and The New Yorker. His projects have premiered at the Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca, and SXSW film festivals.

Sebastián grew up in New York City drinking coffee, playing the violin, and watching Bette Davis movies with his dad. He studied film and music performance at Vassar College. Sebastián currently lives in Salt Lake City, UT with his wife and three children.

Sebastián was kinda my other half when I ran creative at Blue Chalk, where he led production. He understands every kind of production and what it actually takes to get something done. He lives just as easily in the smallest detail as in the biggest picture. Most importantly, he makes you believe there is a way to do anything you can dream up. And then he just makes it happen. Sebastián is thorough, calm, and the person who just puts everyone at ease.

I have worked alongside these people for years, at different companies, in different rooms and in different roles.

& Finch is where I get to bring them back together.

I am lucky to know them, and luckier to get to work with them.

Let's talk.
